What does it look like exactly to become like our Creator? In a word, humility. To become like our Creator means we become humble. It may sound strange, even scandalous, but God is humble. He’s omnipotent (unlimited power) and yet willingly weak. He’s omniscient (perceives-all) and yet voluntarily forgets our offenses. He’s omnipresent (everywhere at all times) and yet withdraws His presence to give us space to be creatures of genuine agency. This is the magnificence of God, divinity wed to humility. We must open our hearts to the reality that God has designed us to become partakers of His humility. That’s what we mean when we talk of acquiring virtue or loving like God loves or becoming like Christ or becoming like our Creator. We’re not talking about becoming omnipotent, omniscient, or omnipresent—we’re talking about becoming humble—we’re talking about becoming, at last, truly human.
